Specifying the IP address for your Vicon software

Specifying the IP address for your Vicon software

Usually, the system IP address is set to 192.168.10.1 (see Assign an IP address to a port in Windows 11 or in Windows 7 to 10). This address is used by your Vicon application software's executable file (*.exe) and by the shortcut that is automatically created when your Vicon software is installed or updated. If you use a different IP address, for example, to avoid a network conflict, you can change the properties of the desktop shortcut for your Vicon application to specify the changed IP address. You can also run your Vicon application software from the command line, enabling you to specify the IP address that it uses.

Specify the IP address used by your Vicon software shortcut

  1. Ensure you have set the IP address as described in Assign an IP address to a port in Windows 11 or in Windows 7 to 10, but specify the required IP address instead of 192.168.10.1. Ensure the last octet of your IP address is from 1 to 9, for example 10.0.0.1.
  2. Locate the Vicon software executable (by default, installed in C:\Program Files\Vicon\ViconAppName#.#\), right-click it and create a shortcut on the Windows desktop.
  3. On the desktop, right-click the new shortcut and click Properties.
  4. On the Shortcut tab, in the Target field, append the the following to the existing text:

    For Nexus and Tracker:
    [Space]--SystemIpAddress ###.###.##.#

    or

    For Shogun:
    [Space]--system-ip-address ###.###.##.#

where ###.###.##.# is the IP address you set in Step 1.

    For example, "C:\Program Files\Vicon\Nexus\Nexus.exe" --SystemIpAddress 10.0.0.1

Run your Vicon software from the command line

To specify the IP address that is used by your Vicon software, you can start it from a command in the Windows Run dialog box.

  1. Ensure you have set the IP address as described in Assign an IP address to a port in Windows 11 or in Windows 7 to 10, but using the required IP address instead of 192.168.10.1. Ensure the last octet of your IP address is from 1 to 9, for example 10.0.0.1.
  2. To open the Run dialog box, press the Windows+R keys or right-click the Windows Start button and select Run.
  3. In the Run dialog box, enter the path and filename of the Vicon software's executable file, followed by:

    For Nexus and Tracker:
    [Space]--SystemIpAddress ###.###.##.#

    or

    For Shogun:
    [Space]--system-ip-address ###.###.##.#

where ###.###.##.# is the IP address you set in Step 1.

    For example, "C:\Program Files\Vicon\Nexus\Nexus.exe" --SystemIpAddress 10.0.0.1
