Valkyrie system diagrams

Up to 8 Valkyrie cameras

With a single switch to connect up to eight Valkyrie cameras.

Components

Currently available and suitable for use in this configuration:

  • Valkyrie cameras (up to 8 per simple switch)
  • Cat 6 (minimum) Ethernet cable
  • Simple switch – Netgear GS516UP
  • PC

Up to 8 Valkyrie cameras with Vicon Lock

With a Vicon Lock added to the system for up to 8 Valkyrie cameras.

Components

Currently available and suitable for use in this configuration:

  • Valkyrie cameras (up to 8 per simple switch)
  • Cat 6 (minimum) Ethernet cable
  • Simple switch – Netgear GS516UP
  • Vicon Lock
  • PC

Up to 80 Valkyrie cameras

With up to 8 Valkyrie cameras per power switch and up to 10 power switches per data switch, using the 10 GB uplink and direct attach (SFP+) cable to connect power switches to the data switch.

The data switch connects to the PC via Ethernet, with an SFP+ transceiver.

The Lock power switch is used whenever a Lock needs its own power source and is connected to the data switch via an Ethernet cable with an SFP-10G-T-PLU SFP+ transceiver.

Note
Use only SFP-10G-T-PLU SFP+ transceivers with the Lock power switch.

If your system requires a longer length (50 m) cable to connect the power switch to the data switch, a 50 m Ethernet cable with two SFP+ transceivers is required.

EN 60601-compliant Valkyrie system

This diagram is an example of a system that meets EN 60601 standards for medical compliance and therefore includes an isolation transformer between the mains power supply and the Ethernet switches. As in the previous example, this diagram shows a system with up to 8 Valkyrie cameras per power switch and up to 10 power switches per data switch, using the 10 GB uplink and direct attach (SFP+) cable to connect power switches to the data switch.

Important
If your system must meet EN 60601 standards for medical compliance, ensure that you have received from Vicon the appropriate number of isolation transformers for your system (one for each 24 cameras connected via up to 4 Ethernet switches). As shown in the diagram, you must connect the isolation transformer between the mains power supply and the Ethernet switch(es).

Components

Currently available and suitable for use in this configuration:

Note
Use only SFP-10G-T-PLU SFP+ transceivers with the Lock power switch.

Up to 160 Valkyrie cameras

With up to 8 Valkyrie cameras per power switch and up to 10 power switches per data switch, using the 10 GB uplink and direct attach (SFP+) cable to connect power switches to the data switch.

Note
Use only SFP-10G-T-PLU SFP+ transceivers with the Lock power switch.

To double the number of Valkyrie cameras that can be connected (up to 160 Valkyrie cameras), two Ethernet cables, each with its own SFP+ transceiver, are required to connect the primary data switch to the PC.

If your system requires a longer length (50 m) cable to connect the power switch to the data switch or to connect data switches, a 50 m Ethernet cable with two SFP+ transceivers is required.

Link aggregation for multiple NICs

In very large systems, to use more cameras or data, you can use additional NICs in your PC to split camera data. To do this:
  1. Set the additional IP addresses of your NICs to different addresses in the available range 192.168.10.2–9.
  2. In your Vicon application software, in the Properties pane for each camera, set the Destination IP Address to the IP address of the NIC to which to send data.

Mixed system with Vantage or Vero cameras (up to 16 Valkyrie cameras)

To add up to 16 Valkyrie cameras to an older system of up to 12 Vantage cameras or 23 Vero cameras and a Lock, the Valkyrie cameras are added to the existing system by connecting them to the primary switch.

Components

Currently available and suitable for use in this configuration:

  • Valkyrie cameras (up to 8 per power switch, to a total of 16)
  • Cat 6 (minimum) Ethernet cable
  • Primary switch: DLink DGS-1520-28MP
  • 10 Gb SFP+ Direct Attach Cable (eg, Netgear AXC763) per power switch
  • Power switches (PoE++): Netgear GSM4212UX, aka M4250-10G2XF-PoE++

In this example, the older Vicon system consists of:

  • Up to 12 Vantage cameras or 23 Vero cameras
  • Gigabit PoE+ switch: DLink DGS-1520-28MP
  • Vicon Lock
  • PC

Mixed system with Vantage or Vero cameras (more than 16 Valkyrie cameras)

To add more than 16 Valkyrie cameras to an older system, the older cameras (and Lock) are added to a new Valkyrie system via the data switch.

If your system requires a longer length (50 m) cable to connect the power switch to the data switch or to connect data switches, a 50 m Ethernet cable with two SFP+ transceivers is required.

In this example, the components from the older Vicon system consist of:

Valkyrie system with FLIR Blackfly S camera

A FLIR Blackfly S camera and a Vicon Lock Lab are added to the system for up to 8 Valkyrie cameras.

Note
To include FLIR cameras in your Vicon system, ensure your hardware meets or exceeds the specifications in Recommended FLIR Blackfly S hardware for Nexus in the FLIR Cameras Setup Guide, and includes a suitable USB 3.1 host controller card and high-speed (M.2) SSD.

Components

Currently available and suitable for use in this configuration:

  • Valkyrie cameras (up to 8 per power switch)
  • Cat 6 (minimum) Ethernet cable
  • Power switches (PoE++): Netgear GSM4212UX, aka M4250-10G2XF-PoE++ (up to 10 per data switch)
  • Teledyne FLIR Blackfly S camera
  • USB 3 Cable
  • PC

Valkyrie system with FLIR Blackfly S camera with two Locks

With up to 8 Valkyrie cameras per power switch and up to 10 power switches per data switch, using the 10 GB uplink and direct attach (SFP+) cable to connect power switches to the data switch.

The data switch connects to the PC via Ethernet, with an SFP+ transceiver.

The Lock power switch is used whenever a Lock needs its own power source and is connected to the data switch via an Ethernet cable with an SFP-10G-T-PLU SFP+ transceiver.

If you use an optional, additional Lock, connect each Lock to the Lock power switch with one Ethernet cable per Lock.

Note
Use only SFP-10G-T-PLU SFP+ transceivers with the Lock power switch.
