Choose a marker set

Choose a marker set

Choosing a marker set that is appropriate for your requirements is the first step in creating a subject in Shogun (for an overview, see Create and calibrate subjects). The marker sets used as Shogun’s default labeling templates are:

  • FrontWaist - This is the standard 53-marker set.
  • SideWaist - This is an alternative standard marker set. Use this set if your performers are bending forward a lot during the capture. The FrontWaist marker set is more likely to occlude certain markers due to a performer's motion obstructing markers on their front.
  • Production - This marker set reduces marker occlusion by including extra markers for the back and top of the shoulders. These extra markers help with gap-filling and solving.

You can add fingers to each of these marker sets. The level of detail required for finger tracking determines the number of markers you need to include in the marker set. For the most realistic finger animation, use the 10 finger-marker set.

The markers placed on hands and fingers are smaller than those placed on the rest of the performer. In the following table, note the difference in the number of body markers when using finger markers. This is because the four smaller markers placed across both hands are counted as finger markers, as the smaller markers are used on both fingers and hands.

The following table shows the number of required markers per set:

The templates (labeling and solving) for each of these marker sets are supplied with the latest release of Shogun. It's assumed that you are using one of Shogun’s default labeling templates. If you are using a different template, contact Vicon Support.

When you have chosen an appropriate marker set, the next step is to attach markers to the relevant performer (see Place markers on a performer).

If you are working on a scene with multiple performers, see also Add labeling clusters to the tracking panel (optional).
