Stream Vicon Tracker objects into Unreal Engine 5
This page covers how to stream Vicon Tracker objects into Unreal Engine.
Prerequisites
Before you begin, ensure you have set up and installed the following components:
- 1 x PC with Vicon software (Tracker) installed
- 1 x PC with Unreal Engine 5 (UE5) installed
- The PCs are connected via LAN
- The latest Unreal Engine plugin is installed on the game-ready PC.
- Vicon Live Link Datastream plugin is installed and enabled on Unreal Engine 5 (see Install and set up Live Link)
- An Unreal Engine 5 project is open
Complete the following steps in this order they appear in this page.
Create the object in Tracker
- Create an object from the reconstructions by pausing playback and using Alt+drag to select them.
- To prevent naming hierarchy issues later, set the name of the object to "root". This sets the root bone to root and enables any default FBX to be used.
Set up Live Link
To set up Live Link, use one of the methods described in Connect to Vicon Datastream.
Set up the prop or object
To set up a prop or object, see Set up Prop and Object using Transform Role.
Check the animation at runtime
After you have set up Like Link, a character, and a prop, the animation should now be streaming onto the character, as seen in the preview window.
To check if the animation is still streaming at runtime go to the toolbar at the top, click Play, and observe the animation data streaming onto the character.
Package the project
- Follow the instructions in Packaging a project.
- Launch the executable.
