Graphing your data

Graphing your data

In the Graph Plots view, you can display and select your data (for example, x, y, and z components of a marker trajectory) in graph format, plotted against time.

Note
For definitions of the terminology used for graphing, see Graph Plots terminology.

To graph data in a Graph Plots view:

If you do not currently have a graph displayed in a Graph Plots view:

  1. In the Workspace, select the Graph Plots view.

(warning) Important: If your Graph plots view displays No channel data available, make sure you either have a live system connected (see Prepare your Origin system) or are in review mode.

  2. To plot a channel type, at the top left of the Graph Plots view, click the list of channel types and select the required channel.

You can choose to display either:
    • An independent channel (a channel, such as DataStream Output Latency, which is available without a channel source being selected) or
    • A dependent channel (a channel, such as Position, which is only available if you've selected a channel source).
If you choose a dependent channel, your channel source can be:
      • An object in theTracking panel
      • A marker or object in the 3D Scene

      • A camera in the System panel or Cameras view
(tick) Tip: Any channel type in white is available for that channel source. If you haven't selected a channel source, only independent channel types are available to view in the graph plot.
To view relative measurements, select two or more channel sources. See also Graph Plots reference.
  3. Change the data displayed within the active channel using additional controls in the Graph Plots toolbar. For more information, see:

To add a graph trace to a subplot in Graph Plots:

If you already have at least one channel active in a Graph Plots view and want to add a trace to a subplot:

  1. Make sure you have pinned all the channels that you would like to keep (see Manage channels ).
If a channel is not pinned, it will be removed from the Graph Plots view.
  2. When you have pinned all the desired channels, you can:
    • Add a trace to the existing graphs (that is, add the position data of Object2 to an existing graph of position data of Object1)
    • Change the processing applied to the active channel type by selecting one of the graph plot modifiers (see Change the type of graphed data)
    • Select a new channel type from the list of channel types at the top left of the Graph Plots view.
    • Select a new channel source by clicking on the device, object, or marker in the relevant panels or views.

  3. If you want to keep the newly added channel and add additional channels, remember to pin it.
Note
In general, any new channel source or type that you select is displayed according to the current settings in the Graph Plots toolbar. The duration of data displayed in the trace depends on whether your system is in live mode, live (paused), or review mode. In either live or live (paused) modes, check that your Live data range (see Change the scale of graphed data) is set appropriately.
  • If your system is live, the duration of the trace initially displays data equal to the Pause Buffer Size (see Vicon Evoke fundamentals in the Vicon Evoke Reference Guide). The length of the trace increases until the Live data range is met.
  • If your system is paused, the length of the trace is equal to thePause Buffer Size. The length of the trace does not increase while the system is paused.
  • If your system is in review mode, it displays the trace for the entire capture duration.

Customize graph plots

To customize the data displayed in the Graph Plots window, first choose your data (see Change the type of graphed data) and then make sure the desired channels are pinned (see Manage channels).

When you have chosen the required channel type(s) to plot, you can customize the way your data is displayed by selecting options from the Graph Plots toolbar to make the following changes:

Tip
To display all available Graph Plot toolbar options, toggle the advanced control button .

As you customize your graph plots, see Graph Plots mouse actions to understand how to control the behavior of the graph plots window.

Manage graph plots

After you have added all the desired channels and customized the layout of the Graph Plot window, you can also:

  • Lock the current selection of channels using theLock channel selection button. When selected, clicking on potential channel sources does not add or remove channels.
  • Save the current Graph Plot layout (including pinned channels) or load a previous Graph Plot layout usingGraph Settings.

Lock channel selection

When the Lock channel selection button is activated, selecting or de-selecting channel sources does not add or remove graph channels to/from the current Graph Plot window.

You can still change the layout of your Graph Plots but not the channels themselves (see Change the layout of graphed data).

Save and load Graph Plots layouts

Use the Graph Settings controls to save and load a specific layout in the Graph Plots window. This includes any channels that are pinned (even if they are not present in the current session) or locked using Lock channel selection. It also includes the settings specified within the graph plot modifiers (see Change the type of graphed data).

Graph Settings only apply to the Graph Plots window and are a subset of the overall View Settings (see Load and save window layouts). This means:

  • You can load different Graph Plot layouts while maintaining the current Evoke layout
  • Loading a View setting will load the graph settings that were specified as a part of that View configuration
  • Graph Settings do not have a specific auto-save feature but are included as part of the View Settings auto-save (see Change the auto-save interval)

If you want to use your current Graph Plots layout in the future, use the Graph Settings menu. From here you can open the Manage Graph Settings dialog box, where you can import, save or delete Graph Settings files.

To save new graph settings:

On the Graph Plots toolbar, click Graph Settings , then Manage, and then click the Save button.

Tip
Remember to pin all desired channels within a Graph Plots window or use Lock channel selection before saving your graph settings.

To load previously saved graph settings:

On the Graph Plots toolbar, click Graph Settings and either select from the list or click Manage and import the required setting.
