What's new in Vicon Evoke 1.7?
About the latest release of Evoke
Evoke 1.7 is the seventh point release of the Vicon software that controls Vicon’s Origin system.
This release includes support for Vicon Valkyrie VK8 cameras and updates to the object preferences to reduce the number of object evaluation warnings.
For a more detailed description of these additions and improvements, see New features in Vicon Evoke 1.7.
New features in Evoke 1.7
Evoke 1.7 includes the following new features.
Support for Vicon Valkyrie VK8
In this release of Evoke, Valkyrie support has been expanded to include the VK8 so that Evoke 1.7 is compatible with:
- Valkyrie VK8, with a resolution of up to 8.0 megapixels (3712 x 2176) and full frame rate capture speed of 500 fps
- Valkyrie VK16, with a resolution of up to 16.1 megapixels (5120 x 3152, changing to 5120 x 3168 with Firmware 808 or later) and full frame rate capture speed of 240 fps
- Valkyrie VK26, with a resolution of up to 26.2 megapixels (5120 x 5120) and full frame rate capture speed of 150 fps
Valkyrie cameras can be used alongside Vantage, Vero, Vue or Viper/ViperX cameras.
Notes
- Evoke performs a more precise lens calibration when a Valkyrie camera is present in the system. In this case, you cannot load any saved camera calibration file into previous versions of Evoke.
- Due to their high resolution, Valkyrie cameras are not recommended for use in systems that include virtual reality headsets as this may result in sub-optimal latency performance. For more information about compatible hardware, contact Vicon Support.
For more information about Valkyrie cameras, see the Vicon Valkyrie documentation.
Changes to preferences to reduce object evaluation warnings
In Settings > Preferences, in the Objects section, the default value of the Object evaluation warning threshold (mm) field has been changed from 6mm to 3m.
Under normal operating conditions, modest similarities in marker geometry are unlikely to cause tracking problems. The lower default threshold reduces the number of warnings generated, particularly for large object sets or objects with a large number of markers.
To help further reduce these warnings, a new field has been added. Object evaluation uses tracking entrance threshold automatically updates the Entrance Threshold field (found in the Object Tracking section of the Processing panel).
- When Object evaluation uses tracking entrance threshold is disabled (by default), object evaluation is performed with an entrance threshold of 1, representing optimal tracking conditions.
- When Object evaluation uses tracking entrance threshold is enabled, object evaluation is performed using the same entrance threshold specified for tracking (via the Processing parameter Entrance Threshold or object preset parameters).
- Enable this option to evaluate objects exactly as they are assessed by the tracking algorithm.
- Note that object confusion is normally resolved successfully, and it is difficult to eliminate all possibilities of confusion.
