Stream Vicon Shogun camera to a cine camera in Unreal Engine 5

This page covers how to stream a Vicon Shogun camera to a cine camera in Unreal Engine.

Prerequisites

Before you begin, ensure you have set up and installed the following components:

  • 1 x PC with Vicon software (Shogun) installed
  • 1 x PC with Unreal Engine 5 (UE5) installed
  • The PCs are connected via LAN
  • Vicon Live Link Datastream plugin is installed and enabled on Unreal Engine 5 (see Install and set up Live Link)
  • An Unreal Engine 5 project is open
  • SDI set up for output to Shogun and Unreal Engine

Set up Shogun

  1. Create a prop using the Tracking panel.
  2. Take note of the name of the prop.

  3. Link the SDI and newly created prop using theLink Camera button in the Setup panel.

Tip
The prop bone can be manipulated on Pause. This can be useful for aligning props to FBXs for UE5.

Check the animation at runtime

With the cine camera and pop set up, the animation should now be streaming onto the character, as seen in the preview window.

The next step is to check the animation is still streaming at runtime.

  1. Select the asset and in the CG Foreground Layer, add the asset to it.
  2. Create a Composure Composite and add the prop to the foreground layer.
  3. View the composite to see the prop align with its real-world counterpart.
