Troubleshoot common issues
This page contains troubleshooting information for connecting Vicon Software to Unreal using Live Link. Issues you may encounter include:
Vicon Live Link Auto-discover cannot find Vicon software servers
Vicon Live Link may not be able to find servers for reasons including the following:
Bonjour is not running
If Bonjour is not running then your servers cannot be found through Auto-discover.
To check if Bonjour is running:
Click the Windows Start icon in the taskbar.
Search for and open Services.
In the list of services, look for Bonjour Services and make sure its status is Running
Alternatively, you can check the Shogun Live logs when you open the app.
If Bonjour is not running, an error is displayed under the BonjourRegistrar
category.
To start Bonjour so your servers can be found:
Click the Windows Start icon in the taskbar.
Search for and open Services.
In the list of services, look for Bonjour Services, right-click on it and click Start.
Open Shogun Live again, check the logs and note that no errors are displayed in the BonjourRegistrar
category.
VPN disrupts Bonjour
Connecting to a VPN disables Bonjour (as this service auto-starts on startup). To use the Auto-discover feature, you must disconnect from your VPN.
If you need to remain on a VPN, you can still connect the Vicon Datastream to Live Link, but you must manually add the server details. For more information on how to manually find a server, see Manually find server to connect Vicon Datastream and Live Link.
Unreal stops responding when creating a server
When you try to connect to a server (either using Auto-discover or manually creating a server), Unreal may stop responding when you click Create.
If the error report starts with the text msvcp140
, you must fix the msvcp140.dll file.
To fix the msvcp140.dll file:
Click the Windows Start icon in the taskbar.
Search for and open Add and Remove Programs.
Search for Microsoft Visual C++ 2015-2022 Redistributable and find the latest build.
Click the three dots on the right side and then click Modify.
Tip: If the reporter displays two versions of the app (x64 and x86), you must modify both versions. In the Modify Setup window, click Repair.
When the repair process is finished, close the window.
You can now manually find and create a server without error.
For Unreal Engine 5.4 only, the .dll used by LiveLink Hub is incompatible with Live Link 1.9
If you are using Unreal Engine 5.4, to use Live Link version 1.9, you must disable the .dll file used by Live Link Hub. To do this, rename the file as described in the following steps:
Make sure the Unreal Engine program is closed.
In Windows Explorer, go to the Unreal Engine folder, found in:
C:\Program Files\Epic Games\UE_5.4\Engine\Binaries\Win64\
Find the file called
ViconDataStreamSDK_CPP.dll
Rename this file
ViconDataStreamSDK_CPP_inactive.dll
or an equivalent.
Note
You only need to disable the .dll file for Unreal Engine 5.4.
Stretched skeletal mesh when streaming skeleton
If your skeletal mesh in Unreal differs from the skeleton streamed from Shogun Live, your skeleton may appear stretched and distorted.
Make sure the skeleton stream from Shogun matches the skeletal mesh selected in Unreal Engine.
If you are streaming when you import a skeletal mesh, in the FBX Import Options window, make sure a skeleton is not selected in the Skeleton field.
Alternatively, if you want to select a Skeleton when importing a mesh, both the mesh and the Skeleton must match.
