Create props in Vicon Markerless systems
For Vicon Markerless systems that include optical cameras, you can track rigid props by mounting passive markers on static and portable props.
For more information, see:
Place markers on props
When placing markers on props, note that a minimum of four markers is required for each prop. During marker placement, be sure to:
- Place the markers across the prop object to reach the extremities as far as possible.
- Avoid placing markers in a straight line and/or on the same plane.
- Avoid placing markers symmetrically.
- To prevent marker swaps, avoid placing prop markers too close to the hands or where the performer will interact with the prop. For example, place markers at the extremities of the prop, but not directly in the location where the interaction occurs.
After you have placed the markers on your prop, you can create a single-segment prop in Shogun Markerless, as described in Create props in Shogun Markerless.
Use Vicon SuperNovas to track props
In addition to tracking props by attaching passive markers to them, if required you can use Vicon SuperNovas to mount one or more active markers (LEDs) or passive markers on props.
For best tracking results, see the tips in Place markers on props and follow these recommendations when positioning active markers on a prop:
- To ensure visibility from multiple angles, attach active markers to all or most surfaces of your prop.
- Arrange the active markers asymmetrically.
- To enable the system to differentiate between multiple props, attach the active markers in unique patterns on each prop.
Caution
Active markers are suitable for use on rigid objects only and Vicon does not support or encourage their use on live performers. If you have any queries on the safe use of the device, please contact Vicon Support.
Create props in Shogun Markerless
When you have attached markers to the required props as described in Place markers on props, create the props in Shogun Markerless:
- Place the prop with the markers attached in the volume.
- If you're using SuperNovas and you don't see anything in the 3D View, ensure that the SuperNova markers are turned on and in the View Filters, ensure Unlabeled Markers is selected.
- In Shogun Markerless, select the markers (Alt+drag or drag only, if the option Alt key to select in views is cleared in Preferences).
- At the top of the Tracking panel, on the Setup tab, go to the Object section, in the Prop field, enter a name for the prop and click Create.
