Connect Vicon Markerless system components

Connect Vicon Markerless system components

Connect together the components of your Vicon Markerless system as described in the following sections.

Connect the IR lights to the GPO ports on the Lock

Connect the IR lights to the GPO ports on the Lock using RCA-to-RCA phono cables.

Connect each light to a PoE++ injector, using an Ethernet cable via the supplied RJ45-to-RJ45 adapter.

The brightness of the lights is controlled via the GPO ports, using GPO files specified in Vicon Shogun Markerless. To control the brightness of the lights, select from the options of either 45% or 90% illumination: 90 is brightest, resulting in the IR lights being on for 90% of the frame period. For information on setting the brightness of the lights, see Set the brightness of the Vicon IR lights.

Number of lights
We recommend that, whatever the size of your capture area, to ensure even illumination, you use 8 lights.
For 30–90 Hz tracking, reduce the brightness of the lights to 45%; for rates 90–120 Hz, use the maximum brightness of 90% and increase the shutter duration.

For more information on setting up the Vicon IR lights, see the Vicon IR Lights Quick Start Guide.

Connect the cameras to the camera switch

Using Cat 6 Ethernet cables, plug the Vanguard cameras into the camera switch, which provides power and data connection to the cameras.

If prop-tracking is required, your system must also include 6–10 optical cameras. Using Cat 5 Ethernet cables with a ferrite for Vicon Vero cameras (or Cat 6 cables for Vicon Valkyrie cameras), plug the optical cameras into the appropriate switch. In the first system diagram, the optical cameras are Vicon Vero cameras.

If you are setting up a new system (see the first diagram), you can connect up to 10 optional optical cameras to the same camera switch as the Vanguard cameras.

If you are adding Vanguard cameras into an existing Valkyrie system, connect the camera switch into the existing primary switch (which connects directly to the PC), as in the second diagram.

Connect the camera switch to the Vicon Lock

Connect the camera switch to the Vicon Lock using a Cat 6 Ethernet cable.

Connect the camera switch to the PC

Connect the switch to the dual 10 Gb Mellanox Connect-X card on the tracking PC running Shogun Markerless, using two 10G SFP+ Direct Attach Cables.
